Recipe Fridays: Blueberry Smoothie

Now that the weather is finally getting warmer it's time for refreshing drinks: smoothies. Obviously you can substitute whatever fruit you fancy.

Equal parts (about 1/2 cup): Blueberries, Vanilla Yogurt, Milk
A few ice cubes
Bit of honey to taste or sprinkle of sugar

Blend all together in a blender. Pour and enjoy!

A great site for many many smoothie recipes is here.

  1. Yummmmm!

My favorite trick for making smoothies is to use frozen fruit. This has many benefits: 1) it's cheaper, 2) it's available all year long, and 3) usually you can skip the ice cubes, giving you a more concentrated fruity-licious flavor. If you find ripe mangoes on sale during the summer months, stick a few in the freezer for smoothies later in the year. Run the mango under hot hot water for a few seconds, and you'll find it remarkably easy to peel.

Also, try using a mixture of some frozen fruit (like strawberries) and a (non-frozen) banana, which adds natural sweetness, and makes the texture more smooth.
